Sheriff Gus H. Skinner, Jr. Completes 94th Session of the National Sheriff's Institute

Longmont, Colorado- Sheriff Gus H. Skinner Jr. of the McCreary County Sheriff's Office completed participation in and was elected Sergeant at Arms of the 94th session of the National Sheriff's Institute (NSI) held in Longmont, Colorado, on April 13-19, 2008. Sheriff Skinner was awarded his degree of completion from Mr. Jim Barbee, Correctional Program Specialist, National Institute of Corrections (NIC), and Fred G. Wilson, Director of Operations, National Sheriff's Association (NSA). Sheriff Skinner is the first Sheriff of McCreary County to graduate from the NSI.


The National Sheriff's Institute is the only national executive development program designed for Sheriff's. Sheriff Skinner was joined by 27 other sheriffs from across the country to address the pressing issues faced by sheriffs. During the NSI 94th session, Sheriff Skinner and the other sheriffs discussed the numerous ways to respond as leaders to emerging and continuing issues in criminal justice and public safety, such as homeland security, school violence, court security, leadership, drugs, disaster relief, jail operations and community relations in the current context of increased awareness for public safety.
