Monday afternoon some loggers working near the radio tower on Beulah Heights Road made a surprising discovery. They found a 50 caliber ammo can in the area they were working. The can was carried back to the landing area of the logging operation and opened. Inside was what appeared to be an explosive device. They immediately closed the container and contacted the U. S. Forest Service. Officers from KSP, ATF, and the Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene. The KSP Bomb Disposal Unit was called in to disarm and dismantle the device. The case has been turned over to ATF for investigation. No suspects have been identified at this time. Anyone with any information on this are asked to call the Sheriff's Office or the ATF toll free at 1-888-283-2662. The Sheriff's Office is advising the public to use extreme care if they come across any suspicious packages or containers and to report such items immediately.
